Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker at The Fox Theatre

Atlanta Ballet Presents Final Production of Long-standing Version of Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker celebrates beloved seasonal production with final run of 24 performances, December 8-28, 2017

ATLANTA (July 31, 2017) – After 22 years and 488 performances of Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker, choreographer John McFall’s beloved version of the magical holiday tale returns to the Fox Theatre for its final 24 performances from Friday, December 8 through Thursday, December 28. Atlanta Ballet Orchestra and the Georgia Youth Choir will perform live at all shows. Local Atlantans and tourists alike will have one more chance to experience this one-of-a-kind rendition before Atlanta Ballet unveils a brand new Nutcracker production in 2018.

Set in the elaborate Moorish décor of Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, this unique production of the Nutcracker tale takes 20 pounds of snow, eight tons of scenery, remarkable lighting and props, and a 38-foot-tall Christmas tree to make Marya’s enchanting story come to life. More than 200 of Atlanta’s young dancers will join the Atlanta Ballet professional company to bring this whimsical holiday spectacular to the Fox Theatre. McFall, Atlanta Ballet’s former artistic director, created this signature production in 1995 to reflect the city of Atlanta’s culture and people. What he created was a Nutcracker that, in his own words, was “traditional yet new, familiar yet different, classic yet contemporary and above all, magical.” For over two decades, Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker has become a holiday tradition shared and enjoyed by multiple generations.

Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker will kick off artistic director Gennadi Nedvigin’s second season with the Company. “Over the last 22 years, McFall’s version has become synonymous with the holiday season in Atlanta, and Atlanta Ballet is proud to have brought joy to so many children and families through his magical choreography and fanciful characters,” says Nedvigin. “We are excited to celebrate the legacy of Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker with every performance throughout this final run.” Atlantans can look forward to a fresh, new version of the holiday classic, featuring the choreography of Yuri Possokhov, resident choreographer with San Francisco Ballet, in December 2018.
